Vajrasattva in Vajrayana Buddhism is the Buddha of primordial purity. He is the Buddha of purification, dedicated to cleansing negativities and obscurations. Vajrasattva sits on an eight-petalled lotus of purest white in full vajra posture. His body is brilliantly white and radiant. He is holding a golden Vajra in his right hand at heart level, and a silver bell in his left hand, resting upon his left thigh.
Buddha Vajrasattva made aspiration for all beings to be purified of their mental afflictions, negative deeds, and ignorance, simply by hearing his name, seeing his form, thinking of him, or reciting the mantra that contains his name. The Vajrasattva meditation is based on purifying dualistic thinking and its consequences.
he Vajrasattva practice uses the four opponent powers to remove obstacles caused by negative karma and broken vows purifying non-virtuous imprints on the mind-stream:
The Power of Dependence: Taking refuge in the Buddha, dharma and sangha.
The Power of Regret: recalling all of our negative actions in the past motivated by ignorance, attachment or aversion.
The Power of Remedy: the power of resolve, determining not to repeat that negativity. This power also include reciting mantra, visualisation practice and mental focus on purification.
The Power of Restraint: or undertaking to refrain from creating negative actions in future.
